Explosion at Jalavihar leaves three injured

HYDERABAD: A blast occurred at Jalavihar on Necklace Road on Wednesday evening, triggering panic among visitors who rushed out of the water facility.
Initial reports suggested that the explosion originated from the reverse osmosis (RO) plant near the canteen. However, police later said the plant itself suffered only minor damage and indicated that an unidentified object nearby might have exploded.
According to Lake police inspector Venkateswarlu, three workers from Srikakulam district Gangulayya alias Lakshman, 50, Appala Naidu, 45, and Anji, 25 were employed at Jalavihar and residing in its quarters.
Blast triggered while opening chemical container
Lakshman had brought a chemical container on Wednesday evening to clean a water tank near the RO plant. At the time, Appala Naidu and Anji were present at the site.
Police said the chemical inside the container had solidified. When Lakshman struck the container against a wall to open it, it exploded.
Lakshman suffered severe injuries, with both hands damaged up to the wrists and burns on his legs and other body parts. Appala Naidu sustained injuries to both eyes, while Anji suffered minor injuries.
Police rule out major damage to RO plant
Though many initially believed the RO plant caused the explosion, police said it only developed minor punctures. They suspect an external explosive source near the plant.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar and Deputy Inspector Srinivasa Rao inspected the site. Clues teams collected evidence, and a detailed inquiry is underway.
