KTR Questions Drop in Hyderabad IT Jobs to 9 Lakh

HYDERABAD: Telangana government data shows that IT sector jobs in Hyderabad declined from 9.46 lakh in 2023 to 9.39 lakh in 2026. The figure was mentioned in the Governor’s address on March 16 and reiterated in the recent Budget speech.
BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao raised concerns over the drop, questioning whether it was due to the impact of artificial intelligence or inefficiency in the Congress-led administration.
Sharing his reaction on social media, KTR stated: “Telangana Govt has admitted twice in a week that IT sector jobs in Hyderabad have come down from 9.46 lakh jobs in 2023 to 9.39 lakh jobs in 2026. Shocking to say the least.
They’ve stated this first in Governor’s address on 16th March and reiterated the same in yesterday’s Budget speech of Deputy CM. Wonder if this was an effect of AI or it’s just plain inefficient Congress administration.”
Earlier, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao criticised the Congress government in the Telangana Assembly over the figures cited in the Governor’s address. He questioned the accuracy of claims related to IT exports and employment.
Rama Rao said the address mentioned IT exports at ₹3.13 lakh crore and employment at 9.39 lakh. However, he pointed out that the IT Minister had earlier stated that exports in 2023–24 were ₹3.60 lakh crore and employment stood at 9.46 lakh, indicating a reduction of 7,000 jobs.
“Fire your Secretary and officers for these mistakes,” Rama Rao said, addressing IT Minister D Sridhar Babu, who responded that he would verify the details.
