Hyderabad IPL traffic delay kills 26-day-old mother

HYDERABAD:Â A 26-day-old mother died after an ambulance carrying her was stuck in traffic for over 90 minutes near Uppal during an Indian Premier League (IPL) match on Sunday.
Suresh and Bishnu, natives of Nepal, had moved to Hyderabad for work and were living in Ghatkesar. The couple have three children — Sagar (6), Sandeep (4) and a 26-day-old infant.
Ambulance stuck for 90 minutes near Uppal stadium
Bishnu, who worked at a local clothing store, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest on Sunday evening. She was first taken to a nearby private hospital. As her condition worsened, she was shifted to AIIMS Bibinagar, where doctors referred her to NIMS in Hyderabad.
While being transported, the ambulance was caught in heavy traffic congestion caused by the IPL match in Uppal. It remained stuck for nearly 90 minutes despite repeated requests by ambulance staff and relatives for vehicles to make way.
Oxygen runs out; family alleges police inaction
During the delay, the emergency oxygen supply in the ambulance was exhausted. Bishnu struggled to breathe and died inside the ambulance.
Family members and the ambulance driver alleged that police on duty did not respond in time to clear the traffic. They said timely intervention could have saved her life.
The three children have been left without their mother.
