Traffic diversions in Uppal for IPL 2026 matches, police issue advisory

HYDERABAD: Traffic diversions will be enforced in Uppal during seven Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match days at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, police said in an advisory.
Matches are scheduled on April 5, 13, 18, 21 and May 3, 6, 22, 2026. Authorities expect moderate congestion in areas under Uppal traffic police station limits.
Heavy vehicles barred, rerouted on match days
Police said heavy vehicles including lorries, dumpers, trucks, tipper vehicles, water tankers, RMC vehicles, JCBs, private buses and tractors will face diversions.
On May 6, when Sunrisers Hyderabad take on Punjab Kings, additional restrictions will be in place due to higher spectator turnout.
Peak congestion expected from noon to midnight
Traffic congestion is likely between 12.00 IST and 00.00 IST on May 6. Key stretches expected to be affected include Nagole to Habsiguda via Uppal junction and Boduppal to Amberpet via Uppal and Ramanthapur.
Police advised commuters to avoid these routes and use alternative roads where possible.
Diversion routes notified for heavy vehicles
Vehicles from Ghatkesar towards Uppal will be diverted at Mehfíl hotel towards Nagole and LB Nagar.
Traffic from LB Nagar towards Uppal will be turned back at Nagole Metro station and routed via Boduppal and Chengicherla.
Vehicles from Tarnaka and Ramanthapur will be diverted via Habsiguda crossroads, Nacharam and NFC rotary towards Cherlapally and Ghatkesar.
Vehicles travelling between Hyderabad and Warangal via Uppal are advised to use the Outer Ring Road (ORR) via Abdullapurmet and Hayathnagar.
Parking arrangements for spectators detailed
Five parking areas have been identified for the May 6 match. Four are outside the stadium within 500 metres for general public, while one inside is reserved for VVIP and VIP pass holders.
Parking outside includes locations near Uppal crossroads towards Habsiguda and Ramanthapur, including open grounds and designated commercial spaces.
Only authorised pass holders will be allowed entry into the stadium parking via Gate 1A. Vehicles without valid passes will be stopped at checkpoints.
Public transport recommended for convenience
Police urged spectators to use public transport such as TSRTC buses and Metro rail to reduce congestion.
“Commuters should plan their travel in advance and cooperate with traffic police,” the advisory stated.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic-II, Malkajgiri, issued the guidelines.
