HYDERABAD: Police in Hyderabad have busted a honeypot gang that allegedly targeted children of affluent families through Instagram, using fake profiles to lure victims and extort money.

According to investigators, the accused created attractive social media profiles promising a luxurious lifestyle to draw in victims. Once contact was established, the gang reportedly engaged victims in physical relationships and secretly recorded the encounters.

Police said the recorded visuals were later used to blackmail victims and extract money. The operation was carried out with careful planning, officials added.

Domestic workers allegedly involved in execution of racket

The gang is also suspected to have involved domestic workers as part of the operation, helping in identifying and targeting victims from well-off families.

Authorities have arrested members of the gang and launched a detailed investigation into the extent of the racket, including the number of victims and financial transactions involved.

Officials said further arrests and disclosures are likely as the probe continues.
