Imposter posing as police officer arrested at Telangana Secretariat

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Police arrested a 31-year-old hotel worker for allegedly impersonating a police officer and attempting to mislead the public at the Telangana Secretariat.
The accused, identified as Thaturi Ravi, also known as Charan Yadavu and Nikhil Yadavu, is a resident of Vasavi Nagar, Ramanthapur Road, Amberpet.
Entered Secretariat in uniform, claimed security role
Police said the incident took place on April 26, 2026. Ravi entered the Secretariat premises wearing a full police uniform and posed as a constable attached to the Chief Minister’s security detail.
He allegedly told members of the public that he could arrange direct meetings with the Chief Minister without prior appointment, officials said.
Investigators found that Ravi recorded a video reel while in uniform and uploaded it on Instagram. In the video, he assured people of assistance, attempting to gain their trust through impersonation.
Obsession with police role led to impersonation
According to police, Ravi had worked at a canteen in Goshamahal in 2018, where he frequently observed police personnel. He later developed an interest in the authority associated with the uniform.
He recently purchased a police kit in Amberpet and began posing as an officer on social media to create a false identity.
Case registered under BNS and IT Act provisions
Police arrested Ravi on April 29, 2026, and registered a case under Crime No. 161/2026 at Saifabad police station.
He has been booked under Sections 204, 205, 319, 318(4) and 353 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 66-D of the Information Technology Act.
Uniforms, mobile phone seized during operation
Police seized several items from the accused, including a khaki police uniform, jungle pattern uniform, beret cap, khaki cap, black belt, whistle cords, a name plate reading “Charan Yadav” and a Motorola G34 mobile phone.
Inspector N. Rajender of Saifabad police station is investigating the case. Officials said the arrest was made by a team under the supervision of the Saifabad Station House Officer and the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Saifabad Division.
Police have advised the public to remain cautious and follow official procedures for government appointments and services.
