Hyderabad IIIT junction flyovers progress, GHMC targets May 2028

HYDERABAD: Construction of three multi-level flyovers at key junctions in Hyderabad’s IT corridor is progressing rapidly, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials said.
Signal-free corridor planned across IT belt
The ₹800-crore project covers flyovers at IIIT Junction, Khajaguda and the Wipro junction, aimed at creating a signal-free corridor across the Cyberabad IT belt and easing chronic congestion.
Following the completion of soil testing a few months ago, heavy machinery has been deployed for deep earth excavation. Pillar works are now underway at the IIIT Junction near the Indian School of Business, officials said.
Peak-hour congestion to be addressed
Motorists currently face severe traffic congestion during peak hours between 8 am and 11 am, and again from 4 pm to 10 pm. The situation worsened during last year’s monsoon, when continuous rainfall led to inundation and gridlock.
IT professionals returning home reported being stranded for three to five hours in multiple queues stretching from Gachibowli towards Lingampally, JNTU and Mehdipatnam.
Underpass included at IIIT Junction
To address these bottlenecks, the civic body is also constructing a dedicated underpass at the IIIT Junction.
“Once completed, commuters will be able to reach their destinations without encountering a single traffic signal,” a GHMC official said. “This will reduce travel time and fuel consumption.”
The GHMC has set May 2028 as the deadline for completing all three flyovers and the underpass.
