Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club (HPRC) came into existence in 2005 following the closure of the AP Riding Club at Masab Tank, which was donated by Prince of Berar Azam Jah in the early 2000. In an effort to revive the sport, HPRC regularly hosts national and international polo events in the city.
According to reports, Hyderabad was home to 17 active polo grounds in the 1920s and 30s. The Golkonda Polo Club was the most popular club in the city as its players would win several laurels in the championships. However, things started to go downhill in the 1950s as equestrian fraternity and the polo grounds were repurposed for developmental activities.
