HYDERABAD: The High Court has stayed elections to the Jubilee Hills Co-operative Housing Society, citing allegations of irregularities in the voters’ list. It temporarily suspended the election notification issued in March.

Issuing interim orders, the court adjourned the next hearing to April 30 and directed the respondents to file counters before then.

Member challenges notification citing rule violations

Society member Sunil Reddy filed a petition challenging the election notification, alleging it was issued in violation of society rules. The matter was heard on Thursday by Justice Nanda Suryapalli.

Arguing for the petitioner, counsel said, “This court had earlier issued orders in 2024 regarding granting membership to 270 persons. Despite objections from existing members over removal of old members, the Registrar of Co-operative Societies did not act. We had to approach the High Court.”

Court says intervention valid amid pending petitions

Counsel for the co-operative department, Hemendra Nath Reddy, argued that courts cannot intervene after the election notification is issued.

After hearing both sides, the judge said intervention was permissible as multiple petitions, including contempt pleas related to the voters’ list, are already under consideration by the same court.

Citing several Supreme Court rulings, the court stayed the election notification and issued interim orders.
