Hyderabad Heroes sign Sumit Roy for ₹3.75 lakh

HYDERABAD: West Bengal player Sumit Kumar Roy set a record in the second season auction of the Rugby Premier League. The Hyderabad Heroes signed him for ₹3.75 lakh at the players’ auction held in Hyderabad on Thursday.
With this, Roy emerged as the highest-paid Indian player in the auction.
The franchise has assembled a strong squad for the league, scheduled from June 16 to 28 at Gachibowli Stadium.
Other big buys in auction draw attention
Mohit Khatri was picked by Chennai Bulls for ₹3.5 lakh, while Deepak Kumar Punia joined Delhi Redz for ₹2.75 lakh.
Women’s league marks new phase for rugby
The season will also see the introduction of a women’s league with four teams. In the women’s category, Shikha Yadav from Delhi was the top pick, bought by Delhi Redz for ₹2.4 lakh.
Rahul Bose, president of Rugby India, and Sujoy Ganguly, Chief Marketing Officer of GMR Sports, said the women’s league marks a new chapter for the sport.
