Women Delegates During Heritage Walk At Charminar In Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The Department of Tourism, Government of Telangana, organised a heritage walk on April 4, 2026, as part of its ongoing weekend initiative. The aim is to promote Hyderabad’s architectural, cultural and historical legacy.

The curated walk covered the iconic stretch from Charminar to Chowmahalla Palace. Notably, it saw participation from 60 women delegates of the Global Shapers Community. The delegates represented international hubs such as Chicago (USA), Malé (Maldives), Thimphu (Bhutan) and Kandy (Sri Lanka). In addition, participants from several Indian cities also joined.

Participants from Ajmer, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Chennai, Coimbatore, Puducherry and Amaravati took part. As a result, the walk reflected a diverse mix of cultural backgrounds. They actively engaged with the city’s heritage and cultural landscape.

Participants highlight immersive cultural and historical experience

During the walk, delegates interacted with the surroundings and learned about Hyderabad’s rich past. Many participants appreciated the initiative. In fact, they described it as an immersive way to experience the city’s historical landmarks.

Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism continues to conduct these heritage walks every second Saturday and Sunday. The initiative specifically targets tourists, students, architects and heritage enthusiasts.

Tourism department aims to boost heritage tourism in Hyderabad

According to officials, the programme aims to position Hyderabad as a leading heritage tourism destination. At the same time, it seeks to encourage the preservation of the city’s unique legacy.

Going forward, the department plans to continue such programmes. This will further enhance public engagement with Hyderabad’s cultural assets.
