Hyderabad braces for heavy rain as thunderstorms intensify across city
HYDERABAD: Intense rainfall lashed several parts of east Hyderabad on Monday as a strong thunderstorm system moved across the city, bringing heavy showers to Uppal, Nagole, LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram and Malkajgiri.
According to weather updates shared by Hyderabad Rains, the ongoing spell has been significantly stronger over eastern parts of the city compared with the previous rainfall episode. The rain-bearing clouds were expected to extend towards Malakpet, Amberpet, Ramanthapur, Saroornagar, Saidabad, Osmania University, Musheerabad and Himayatnagar within the next hour.
While eastern areas witnessed widespread heavy rain, isolated showers were also reported around Golconda and adjoining western parts of Hyderabad. Weather observers said these showers were likely to continue for another hour.
A fresh and more intense thunderstorm system was reported to be developing over Ameenpur, Patancheru and Bachupally. The system was expected to move across most parts of Hyderabad over the next one to two hours, sparing only a few northeastern localities such as Kapra and Malkajgiri.
Meteorologists monitoring the system warned that some areas could receive 40 mm to 50 mm of rainfall, increasing the risk of waterlogging on roads and in low-lying localities.
The rainfall marks a strong onset phase of the southwest monsoon over Hyderabad. Forecasters said heavy downpours were likely to continue across western and central parts of the city through the evening, and residents were advised to remain alert and plan travel accordingly.
