Apollo Hospitals Facility Inauguration In Hyderabad With Telangana Cm Announcing Health City Plan

HYDERABAD: Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday announced plans to develop a health city near the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. The project aims to boost medical tourism and strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of Apollo Hospitals’ 400-bed facility in the Financial District, he said the state is working with the Centre to create a green channel for international patients. He noted that limited direct air connectivity remains a key hurdle for medical tourism. The government plans to address this issue but has not set a timeline.

Emergency services expansion and district-level healthcare push

Health minister Damodar Rajanarsimha said the state will expand ambulance services from 30 to 100. It will also set up 40 trauma care centres across Hyderabad, each within a 35-km radius.

He added that the government has established non-communicable disease (NCD) clinics in every district. These clinics offer medicines, diagnostics, and specialist care. “We have also launched a cancer registry to track disease trends,” he said. The state is setting up daycare centres across districts, including remote areas like Mulugu and Adilabad.

Apollo report flags rising NCD burden among youth

Apollo Hospitals’ Health of the Nation 2026 report highlights a growing burden of non-communicable diseases in Telangana. More than 25% of those screened in Hyderabad were diabetic. The figure rises to nearly 29% in Warangal.

The report found that over 81% of those screened were overweight or obese. More than 27% had hypertension.

Apollo founder Prathap C Reddy said NCDs are increasingly affecting younger people. He said artificial intelligence can reduce heart attack diagnosis time from 60 minutes to 10. However, he stressed that clinical judgement remains crucial.
