Hyderabad Citizens Report Harassment By Transgender Group At Kphb Bus Stop

Hyderabad: Citizens of Hyderabad are raising concerns over an alleged harassment issue at the KPHB bus stop, where a group of individuals claiming to be transgenders is reportedly targeting young boys.

The issue was highlighted by Krishna Mantravadi (@krishtalkz) on social media platform ‘X,’ formerly known as Twitter.

In his post, Krishna Mantravadi described witnessing the group approach shy or innocent-looking boys, asking for money. He claimed that even when the boys gave small amounts, such as Rs. 10 or Rs. 20, the group demanded larger sums, such as Rs. 100 or more. If the boys refused or claimed they didn’t have enough cash, they were reportedly shown a QR code and forced to pay through UPI.

Krishna Mantravadi further stated that if the boys tried to ignore the group, they were humiliated in public, subjected to inappropriate physical contact, and threatened with public exposure. According to him, many boys are paying large sums just to avoid embarrassment, calling the actions a form of harassment that requires urgent police attention. Krishna Mantravadi tagged Hyderabad City Police and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Anumula in his post.

In response, Hyderabad City Police alerted Cyberabad Police, who acknowledged the issue and stated they would inform the concerned authorities.

Social media users also chimed in with their own experiences. One individual, Praneeth VK (@fabtasy_d11), shared an incident in which he was targeted at the KPHB bus stop. He described being harassed for money and barely managing to escape by pretending to have no cash.

Other users voiced their concerns about similar issues at different locations, such as the Cyber Tower signal near Shilparamam, Khairatabad, and Ameerpet. Some have called for stricter action against the individuals involved.

In recent months, there have been complaints from residents regarding transgender individuals and hijra groups demanding money at private events, such as weddings and housewarmings. While it is customary to offer them money, some locals have reported instances of unruly behavior when the requested amount is not met.

A recent incident in Gurrampudi village, Ranga Reddy district, garnered attention when a hijra group allegedly became disruptive during a bhumi puja (groundbreaking ceremony) after not receiving the amount they demanded. The group reportedly engaged in obscene gestures and verbal abuse. A video of the incident went viral, prompting a response from the Rachakonda Police Commissioner, who directed local officials to take necessary action.

Following similar complaints, Meerpet police recently detained seven transgender individuals for allegedly causing public nuisance. The individuals were reportedly involved in indecent exposure and obscene gestures at multiple locations within the police station’s jurisdiction. Special teams, in coordination with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), carried out raids at several known hotspots.
