NHAI issues Tenders for Northern RRR Construction

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is preparing plans to expand the growth corridor in line with the city’s expansion.

Officials are considering extending the growth corridor up to 3 km on either side of the proposed radial roads that will connect the Outer Ring Road (ORR) to the upcoming Regional Ring Road (RRR). The proposal may be incorporated in the Master Plan 2050.

At present, the growth corridor extends up to 1 km around the ORR. In view of increasing pressure on the city, there is a proposal to expand the outer growth corridor from 1 km to 2 km.

Officials believe widening the growth corridor along both sides of the phased radial roads will help the city handle future challenges.

Ten radial roads proposed across city

The HMDA has proposed construction of 10 radial roads linking the ORR and the RRR at various points.

A second radial road will be built from Budvel to Kosgi, connecting the ORR to the Regional Ring Road. The alignment will pass through Chandanvelly and Peraram areas.

Townships, mixed-use zones planned along corridors

Extending the growth corridor up to 3 km on either side of the radial roads is expected to promote industrial and commercial development, besides enabling township projects.

Logistics hubs may come up in several locations. If designated as mixed-use zones, the corridors can support residential, commercial, educational and entertainment facilities.

Telangana Developers Association (TDA) president GV Rao has urged the government to immediately expand the outer growth corridor from 1 km to 2 km to address rising urban pressure.
