Delays in Hyderabad Ganesh Immersion

Hyderabad: The annual Ganesh idol immersion in Hyderabad faced unexpected delays this year, stretching well beyond its planned completion time. Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand shed light on the challenges that led to the extended procession. Official records show around 5,500 idols were immersed in Tank Bund on Tuesday.

Hyderabad City Police Commissioner CV Anand said “The idol immersion should have been completed by 8 AM, but delays occurred due to organizing committee issues, oversized Ganesh idols from neighbouring districts, and vehicle breakdowns pushed the event several hours past its scheduled conclusion.”

He added that it went as planned in the South zone. Kairathabad Ganesh started at 6 AM and completed the immersion by 1 PM. The delay was due to idols from the East and South West zones not starting the procession on time. He hoped next year they will follow the rules.
“Secondly, idols from other districts came to Tank Bund, leading to chaos. As per our estimates, idols installed in the city limits are under 30-40 feet, and informed the TRANSCO department they ensured the wires are above 30 feet. However, two idols approached Tank Bund, getting stuck due to electric wires, delaying over one and a half hours,” said CV Anand.

Unfit vehicles broke down on the roads, causing delays. “We estimated the idols’ immersion procession should finish by 7-8 AM, but it was delayed by 3-4 hours,” said C V Anand.

Commissioner Anand thanks officials for 48-hour effort

Further, CV Anand thanked the officers who worked tirelessly for over 48 hours and other GHMC, HMDA, TRANSCO, RTA officials. In the last 10 days, over one lakh idols were immersed in Tank Bund.

Hyderabad police deployed 25,000 officers for the Ganesh Immersion procession, including 15,000 city police and 10,000 police personnel from other districts. C V Anand posted on X (formerly Twitter), “The entire 25K force of HCP and other units worked continuously in two shifts (except officers of city police) throughout the night to expedite the immersion of thousands of idols. By 5AM, the situation was much better than last year as the tail end reached MJ market jn and a few hundred vehicles on other roads, hope to keep the roads clear for general traffic by 8 am today!”
