Hyderabad plans Future City transport hub near Shamshabad

HYDERABAD: The Telangana government is positioning the proposed Future City near Shamshabad as a multi-modal transport and commercial hub, linking it with an airport, high-speed railway terminals, metro connectivity and a greenfield expressway.
500 acres near Shamshabad for rail terminals
The government will allocate nearly 500 acres near Shamshabad airport for proposed high-speed railway terminals. An additional 50 acres will be earmarked for allied railway and infrastructure needs.
The Centre has announced bullet and high-speed rail corridors passing through Telangana to other states. The state has identified areas close to Future City for these projects.
The government has already initiated steps to extend the metro rail to the airport. It also plans to connect the proposed 291-km greenfield expressway from Future City to Machilipatnam Port with this junction.
Malls, business zones planned near transport hub
Officials are planning malls, entertainment zones, 24-hour business centres and commercial complexes around the airport, railway corridor, metro station and expressway junction.
The government is preparing a detailed action plan to ensure that all civic and social infrastructure is available within Future City for residents.
Construction of the Young India Skill University building has begun within the project area. Several sectors are expected to shift operations to the new city.
Plan aims to ease pressure on Hyderabad
The move is part of efforts to reduce congestion in Hyderabad. Areas such as the Old City, HITEC City, Cyberabad, Knowledge City, Gachibowli and the IT corridor face heavy traffic, pollution and recurring urban flooding during monsoon.
The government plans to develop Future City as a parallel urban centre with integrated road, rail and metro connectivity centred around the airport.
By setting up railway terminals and metro stations near the airport, the government expects to provide seamless connectivity for travellers from other states and countries.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is personally reviewing the project and monitoring implementation, officials said.
