HYDERABAD:  A key step has been taken in developing the state government’s flagship ‘Future City’ project. Foundation stones for several government and private buildings will be laid soon, while some facilities will also be inaugurated.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to perform ground-breaking ceremonies and inaugurations in the third week of May. Officials are making arrangements for the events.

Initially, the government planned these programmes for June 2, Telangana Formation Day. However, the schedule has been revised, and the works will now be completed in the third and fourth weeks of May.

Key buildings and offices planned in first phase

Officials are preparing to inaugurate the Future City Development Authority building. The Chief Minister has already laid the foundation for the Future City Police Commissionerate.

He is also expected to lay foundation stones for the National Institute of Urban Management campus spread over 25 acres and the Singareni headquarters on 10 acres.

In addition, environment-friendly research centres and packaging units of pharmaceutical companies such as Dr Reddy’s, Bharat Biotech, Hetero, MSN and Aurobindo will be launched.

Green planning, data centres and infrastructure push

The region is being developed as the country’s first net-zero greenfield smart city. The master plan includes renewable energy use, eco-friendly transport and waste management systems.

The state is also encouraging data centre investments by offering incentives. Companies such as Amazon, CtrlS and Hyperwise are expected to set up facilities, with foundation ceremonies likely soon.

The Young India Skills University campus is being developed on a fast-track basis and is expected to be completed in the coming months.

Several central and state-run institutions are also planned to be shifted to Future City. A university focused on leather industry development is proposed, along with infrastructure for manufacturing and marketing leather products.

The National Academy of Construction will get a modern campus spread over 50 acres to train youth in multiple skills.

Authorities are also planning basic infrastructure, including major roads, water supply and other facilities. The city will be developed in zones, with connectivity ensured through arterial roads. First-phase infrastructure works will also be launched soon.
