Hyderabad police seize adulterated food during citywide crackdown

Hyderabad: In a major crackdown on food adulteration, Hyderabad authorities registered 61 cases last month and seized 15 tonnes of contaminated food. Sixty-four people have been arrested, Hyderabad Police Commissioner      V.C. Sajjanar said.

Food adulteration a threat to public health
Sajjanar called food adulteration a “grave attack on society.” He warned that common food items, including biscuits and ice creams eaten by children, as well as staples like ginger-garlic paste, tea powder, milk, and curd, are being contaminated.

“Such practices put profits above people’s lives. They pose a serious risk to public health,” he added.

Government to strengthen food safety system
Meanwhile, the Telangana government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, announced plans for a dedicated system to improve food safety enforcement. Sajjanar welcomed the move, saying it shows a firm commitment to protecting citizens’ health.

H-FAST team intensifies enforcement
The Hyderabad Police Commissionerate has formed a special unit, the Hyderabad Food Adulteration Safety Team (H-FAST). The team is actively investigating networks involved in adulteration and taking strict action against offenders.

Zero tolerance for offenders
Sajjanar stressed that authorities will not show leniency to anyone who risks people’s lives. He said the crackdown will continue and grow stronger in the coming months. He also highlighted that public awareness and sustained enforcement are essential to end this menace.
