HYDERABAD: Heavy rain lashed the city on Sunday night, leaving several areas inundated and three persons missing in separate incidents. Rain began around 7.30 pm and continued for over an hour, with Musheerabad’s Boudhanagar recording 12 cm. Several low-lying areas, including Jawaharnagar, Marredpally, Yousufguda, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills and Krishnanagar, were flooded. Major roads were submerged, stranding motorists in waist-deep water.

Traffic came to a standstill in many parts of the city. In Krishnanagar, floodwaters swept away vehicles. Two persons, Ramu (25) and Arjun (26), both relatives and residents of Mangar basti in Asifnagar, were washed away after a nala overflowed near their home. Locals said the two had stepped out to shift belongings when the water level rose suddenly.

In a separate incident, Dinesh alias Sunny (24), an employee of a private firm and resident of Vinoba Nagar, Musheerabad, was washed away while returning home on his motorcycle. Police and Disaster Response Force teams have launched searches for the missing men.

Across Telangana, heavy rain was reported in Medak, Siddipet, Kamareddy, Rajanna Sircilla, Mulugu and Asifabad districts. Siddipet’s Narayanaraopet recorded the highest rainfall of 24.3 cm. Flooding was reported in several mandals, and in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, a woman’s body was recovered in Anantharam stream after being washed away in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

With upstream inflows rising, floodgates were lifted at Jurala, Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar projects on the Krishna river. Officials also released water from Singur reservoir.
