Constable dies of suspected heart attack while on patrol in Hyderabad’s Filmnagar
HYDERABAD: A police constable died after suffering a suspected heart attack while on duty in Hyderabad’s Filmnagar area on June 13.
Constable Obulesu, attached to Filmnagar police station, collapsed while walking towards a nearby hotel for breakfast during a routine patrol. A video of the incident, which surfaced on social media, showed him entering the hotel premises before stumbling and falling near a stall at the entrance.
Bystanders and hotel staff rushed to assist him and attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). However, they were unable to revive him. He was declared dead at the scene.
Police personnel later shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Officer known for dedication to duty
Obulesu was a native of Giddalur in Andhra Pradesh and was known among colleagues for his commitment to duty. His sudden death has shocked fellow personnel in the Hyderabad police force.
Police are awaiting the post-mortem report to confirm the exact cause of death. Preliminary indications point to a heart attack.
Series of similar incidents in Telangana
The incident follows other recent cases involving police personnel suffering fatal heart attacks while on duty in Telangana.
On June 9, head constable Gangadhar of Mopal police station in Nizamabad district collapsed while on duty and was declared dead after being taken to hospital.
In June 2025, Special Operations Team (SOT) constable Praveen Kumar, 38, attached to Balanagar police station, died after suffering a heart attack during a raid in Hyderabad’s Jeedimetla area.
The recent incidents have renewed concerns about occupational stress and health risks faced by police personnel during duty hours.
