Hyderabad family of three goes missing in Nepal floods
HYDERABAD: A Hyderabad family of three living in the UK has gone missing in Nepal after floods struck the area during their Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage.
Sridhar Avvari, his wife Deepthi and their son Abhinav had travelled to Nepal through the Isha Foundation. The family was reported missing after a sudden natural disaster struck near the Gyirong immigration office on August 26.
Elderly mother waits for family to return
Sridhar’s elderly mother Padmavathi, who lives in Kukatpally, has been waiting for news of her son, daughter-in-law and grandson.
Padmavathi, who has three sons, is understood to be distressed after learning that Sridhar and his family were missing. Her other two sons, who are based in the US, have reportedly left for Nepal.
Family had arrived in Hyderabad recently
Sridhar, who is settled in the UK, had recently come to Hyderabad with his wife and son. The family was staying at their own house in a gated community in Tellapur.
On August 19, the three travelled to Nepal with the Isha Foundation as part of Group S3 for the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage.
As part of the journey, they were waiting near the Gyirong immigration office on August 26. A sudden natural disaster struck the area, triggering heavy flooding. The immigration office and tourists present there were reportedly swept away.
The Isha Foundation later released a poster stating that Sridhar, Deepthi and Abhinav were among those missing.
The family’s relatives have been waiting for information about their whereabouts, hoping that they will return safely.
