Hyderabad Police Inspect Scooter With Fake Number Plate During Enforcement Drive

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Traffic Police detected a fake vehicle registration case involving a duplicate number plate used to evade enforcement checks. The Jubilee Hills police arrested V. Suresh Kumar, 26, a delivery worker, in connection with the offence.

Accused identified, vehicle details revealed

Police said the accused fixed a fake registration plate—AP39KG7219—on a Honda Activa. The number belongs to another Honda Activa registered in the name of Navuluru Vasu, a resident of Nellore, Andhra Pradesh.

Investigators said the accused used the fake plate to mislead enforcement officials, avoid penalties, and cause loss to the government. During the inquiry, police found that the original registration number of his vehicle is TS09BWTR7624.

Case registered under BNS and MV Act

Police registered a case (FIR No. 245/2026) at Jubilee Hills police station under Sections 318(2) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 192 of the Motor Vehicles Act. They also served the accused a notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which corresponds to Section 41 of the CrPC. The investigation is ongoing.

Officials said the Hyderabad Traffic Police and Jubilee Hills police worked together to detect the case.

Warning against misuse of number plates

Traffic police said using fake or tampered number plates is a serious offence and will invite strict action. They added that surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems, help detect such violations and track vehicles.

Police urged citizens to report suspected misuse of registration numbers through the e-challan website, email, or WhatsApp helpline.
