Hyderabad police arrest fake doctor in Yashoda Hospital gold theft case

HYDERABAD: A woman posing as a doctor and her husband were arrested for drugging patients and stealing gold ornaments at hospitals in Hyderabad.
The Secunderabad Zone Task Force and Market police station jointly arrested Goundla Shirisha, 25, a Pharm.D student, and her husband Edulapalli Sai Kumar Goud, 30, a businessman. Both are residents of Nawabpet mandal in Vikarabad district.
Accused target elderly women in hospitals
Police said Shirisha used her medical knowledge to target elderly women patients. She entered hospitals wearing a doctor’s apron and administered Diazepam injections to victims.
After the patients lost consciousness, she stole their gold jewellery and fled, police added.
Thefts reported in two hospitals
The accused committed thefts on March 11, 2026, at Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad and Citizen Specialty Hospital in Chandanagar using the same method.
Police said the stolen money was spent on shopping and personal expenses.
Gold, car and phones seized
Police seized around 11 tolas of gold jewellery, a Maruti Suzuki Baleno car and two mobile phones from the accused.
Cases have been registered at Market police station (Crime No. 70/2026 under Sections 309(6), 123 and 319 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) and Chandanagar police station (Crime No. 274/2026 under Section 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita).
Police team credited for arrest
The operation was led by Inspector J. Rajasekhar of Secunderabad Task Force, along with Market police station SHO V. Ramachander, DI S.M. Basheer Ahmed, SI P. Gnanadeep and C.H. Naresh.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force) Gaikwad Vaibhav Raghunath supervised the operation.
