Hyderabad: “We designed a device that will sense sunlight and automatically switch off the street lights,” says 18-year-old Edulapuram Shashidhar, a young engineering student and entrepreneur. He boasts that we can save 50 percent electricity with his Automatic Street Light Control Device.

Shashidhar is pursuing his engineering at Vignana Bharathi Institute of Technology (VBIT) in Ghatkesar. He traces the origin of his invention to his childhood observations. “I got this idea in while I am in Third class. On my way to school, I noticed street lights remained on during daylight hours. After researching the concept on the internet, I developed a solution using a Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) concept to control street light operations. I made a device that controlled 50 watts load on street lights.”

The device has evolved significantly since its initial prototype. Speaking to HyderabadMail, Shashidhar said,“Initially, when I started working on this project, I could control only one or two lights. After continuous modifications, the device can now manage up to 10,000 lights simultaneously.”

His motivation extends beyond technical innovation. Shashidhar, who hails from Advalapally Village, Malharrao Mandal, Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, said, “My goal stems from a desire to assist and empower individuals by providing accessible and efficient solutions to their needs.”

18-year-old Entrepreneur aims to transform power consumption with smart device

The project aims to improve municipal efficiency by reducing power consumption, extending light durability, and optimizing street lighting infrastructure. “When I started this project, I hoped it would enhance productivity. By launching this project we can consume less power and increase municipal workers’ efficiency and light durability,” said Sasidhar.

In 2019, he learned about the assistance from Telangana State Innovation Cell (TGIC) through an advertisement from the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district collector. He then applied for the ‘Intinta Innovator programme’ of TGIC. With the mentorship from TGIC, he established a startup ‘Evolution Vishwakarma Solutions Pvt Ltd’. A pilot project has received preliminary approval from the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district collector for implementation in Mahadevpur Mandal.
