Paradise-Shamirpet Rajiv Rahadari elevated corridor: Shop tenants seek R&R benefits

HYDERABAD: Tenants of commercial shops affected by land acquisition for the Rajiv Rahadari elevated corridor from Paradise Junction to Shamirpet ORR Junction have given a joint petition to the Special Deputy Collector for Land Acquisition. They are asking for Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) benefits under the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 (RFCTLARR Act, 2013).
The tenants’ petition refers to a notice dated November 19, 2024, about the land being taken over. The tenants said the land acquisition and their planned removal would hurt their businesses, reputation, customers, and livelihoods. In addition, many tenants have already sent individual applications with documents like rent receipts and tenancy records. However, they said they have not received any written reply, hearing, or official order.
Furthermore, the tenants said that, as required by the RFCTLARR Act, 2013, they have not been given a chance to be heard, even though they sent their requests. As a result, they said this has stopped them from showing their documents, objections, and claims to the right officials.
Reliefs sought
The tenants asked that their claims be checked under the law. They want officials to look at rules about affected persons, those interested in the property, the process of checking claims, R&R, protecting livelihoods, giving R&R awards, and paying any legal benefits.
The tenants want officials to check their tenancy, living, and work rights, and to give R&R benefits to those who deserve them. They ask the office to accept their petition and claims, check each tenant’s documents, and give everyone a chance to speak. They also want the office to decide and tell each tenant what benefits they will get, and to give reasons in writing if any claim is denied or found not valid.
The tenants said that if they do not get a written reply, a hearing, or a decision soon, they will treat it as a refusal. They said they will then go to court to ask for protection against being removed, for costs, and for other relief. They said they are keeping all their rights and options under the law, Telangana rules, and fair treatment.
