One Number, Two Scooters: Hyderabad Man Booked for Plate Fraud

Hyderabad Traffic Police Inspect Vehicle For Fake Number Plate Violation

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Traffic Police have booked a man for allegedly using the same registration number on two vehicles, officials said on April 2026.

Police registered a case against D. Narayana Reddy, a resident of Rajiv Nagar in Borabanda. He allegedly used the same registration number on two Honda Activa scooters. Officers acted on credible inputs to detect the offence.

Fake number plate used to mislead authorities

During inspection, police found that Reddy had affixed a fake number plate (TS09GD2712) to one scooter. This number actually belongs to another Activa.

That vehicle is registered in the name of his daughter, Deepa Rani, a resident of Vengal Rao Nagar in SR Nagar.

Police said he used the duplicate number to mislead enforcement authorities, avoid penalties, and cause loss to the government. They added that such misuse amounts to impersonation of a vehicle and cheating.

Case registered under BNS and Motor Vehicles Act

Police booked the accused under Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 158 and 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

They also served him a notice under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which corresponds to Section 41 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Joint operation and warning to public

The Hyderabad Traffic Police and Borabanda Police detected the case through coordinated efforts. Investigation is ongoing.

Officials warned that using fake or tampered number plates is a serious offence. They said they will take strict action against violators.

They also highlighted the use of CCTV surveillance and automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras to detect such violations.

Citizens can report suspected misuse through the e-challan portal, email, or the traffic WhatsApp helpline.
