More than 4000 drunk drivers booked, 76 lakhs fine imposed in 23 days, in Hyderabad

Hyderabad Drunk Drivers Booked

Hyderabad: In continuation of Hyderabad Traffic Police drive against drunk drivers, in the last 23 days starting from August 1 to 23, 2024, more than 4000 motorists were booked by the police.

According to the details revealed by the Hyderabad Traffic Police, “During the last 23 days from 1st August, 2024 to 23rd August, 2024, 4,056 motorists who were driving the vehicles in a drunken state have been booked and 3,495 Charge sheets have been filed in various Courts and the same have been disposed of. During the last 23 days, 300 drunk drivers have been sentenced to imprisonment from 1 to 10 days and 32 drunk drivers have been sentenced to do social service for 2 days. Further, 19 driving licenses were also suspended for 2 to 6 months by the RTO based on the orders of Magistrates. The courts also have imposed a fine of Rs. 76,43,700/- on all the violators.”

Meanwhile, during a special drive on August 3, 2024, against drunk driving, 318 drunk drivers were caught and cases were booked against them U/s 185 of Motor Vehicle Act.

65 drunk drivers jailed on a single day

Further on a single day 65 drunk drivers were sentenced and sent to jail on August 12, 2024 alone for a maximum period of seven days and the minimum being one day.

Going further into the details, “161 motorists with Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) exceeding 200 mg./100 ml. of blood were caught which is well beyond the permissible limit of less than 30 mg/100ml. In overall cases, maximum cases were booked against the two-wheeler drivers i.e. 3,459 (85 %). The drunk drivers were also counselled at the Traffic Training Institutes of Goshamahal and Begumpet in the presence of their family members.”

In an advisory, Hyderabad Traffic police said, “The motorists should remember that alcohol hampers vision due to dizziness and it also dampens fear and incite humans to take risks. All these factors while driving result in accidents and many times it proves fatal. Drunk driving is an offence under section 185 of the M.V. Act. With punishment of fine of Rs. 10,000/- and/or 6 months imprisonment. The driving licences of repeat violators will be suspended by the RTO for 3 months and above (or) permanently.”
