Drug suspect booked for attempt to murder after running over Hyderabad constable during escape bid
HYDERABAD: A suspected drug buyer allegedly ran over a Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) constable while trying to escape an anti-narcotics operation in Abids on Monday.
Acting on a tip-off, H-NEW officials intercepted a suspected drug deal near Payal Footwear in Abids. Police said the suspect, identified as Saif, a resident of Hussaini Alam, reversed his Baleno car and fled the spot, running over Constable Mahender Yadav’s leg.
Constable suffers fracture during pursuit
Police chased the vehicle and intercepted it near Afzalgunj, where the suspect was taken into custody. Constable Mahender Yadav sustained a leg fracture in the incident.
Inspector Srikanth and Constable Vamsidhar suffered minor injuries during the operation, police said.
Attempt to murder cases registered
Police registered attempt to murder cases at the Abids and Afzalgunj police stations. Saif remains in H-NEW custody and is being interrogated in connection with the case.
