Hyderabad driver dies by suicide over SIR voter list fears
HYDERABAD: A 51-year-old car driver allegedly died by suicide after becoming distressed over his name not appearing in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) electoral roll, police said. The incident occurred in Bharat Nagar under the Borabanda police station limits on Sunday.
Family recounts his concerns
According to police and family members, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a resident of Bharat Nagar, feared he might be sent to jail if his name was not included in the SIR list. He was also worried about who would look after his three children.
His wife, Ismail Bee, tried to reassure him on Saturday night, but he remained distressed. Police said he allegedly hanged himself from an iron rod in a shed outside his house in the early hours of Sunday.
Police begin investigation
After receiving information, police shifted the body to Gandhi Mortuary for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered and an investigation is underway.
