Driver held for ₹5.5 lakh theft from employer’s car in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Sultan Bazar police have arrested a 33-year-old driver for allegedly stealing ₹5.50 lakh from his employer’s car at Bank Street in Koti and recovered ₹5,04,900 in cash.

Police identified the accused as Kuthadi Hari Kumar, who worked as a driver for a businessman. Police said he was a previous offender with cases involving murder, theft and escape from judicial custody.

Driver allegedly retained car keys before stealing cash

According to police, the theft took place on July 9, 2026, when the businessman went shopping at Bank Street in Koti. Hari Kumar allegedly retained the vehicle keys, stole ₹5.50 lakh kept in the car and fled to Kurnool.

Sultan Bazar police registered Crime No. 224/2026 under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

Technical evidence led police to accused at Shadnagar

Based on technical evidence and credible information, police traced and apprehended Hari Kumar at Shadnagar bus stand.

Police said the investigation indicated that personal financial difficulties and resentment over what the accused considered inadequate compensation from his employer had allegedly motivated the theft.

Police recovered ₹5,04,900 of the stolen cash, two mobile phones allegedly purchased with the stolen money, the accused’s mobile phone and the vehicle key.

The Sultan Bazar police detected the case under the supervision of senior officers of the Khairatabad Zone.
