Residents gather after stray dog attack on child in Himagiri Colony, Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A three year old boy was critically injured after being attacked by four dogs in Hyderabad. The incident took place in Himagiri Colony of Haidershikote when the child was playing outside his home.

The boy, identified as Vedant Reddy (3), was surrounded and bitten repeatedly by the dogs. He was rushed to a private hospital, where he remains under treatment. Doctors said his condition continues to be critical.

Residents of Himagiri Colony expressed anger over what they described as the authorities’ failure to control the stray dog population. Locals said repeated complaints had yielded no visible action, raising concerns over public safety, particularly for children.

In a separate incident, a case of alleged mass poisoning of stray dogs has surfaced from NTR district. About 250 stray dogs were found dead in Velagaleru village of G Konduru mandal.

The deaths were detected by staff of Ratna Animal Welfare Organisation, who alleged that panchayat workers had poisoned the animals. A formal complaint has been filed against the panchayat secretary at the G Konduru police station.

Police said preliminary findings indicated that toxic substances were used to kill the dogs. An inquiry is under way to determine responsibility and the circumstances leading to the incident.

The two incidents have renewed debate over stray dog management and the balance between public safety and animal welfare, with residents and activists calling for regulated, humane measures instead of ad hoc responses.
