Hyderabad doctor completes Seven Summits challenge
HYDERABAD: An orthopaedic surgeon from Hyderabad has completed the prestigious Seven Summits challenge by scaling the highest peaks on all seven continents after recovering from Covid-19.
Covid recovery leads to mountaineering journey
Dr Rajashekhar, an orthopaedic surgeon at Sri Munjunatha Hospital in KPHB, stepped away from medical practice for nearly a year after recovering from Covid-19 due to persistent fatigue and weakness. Determined to regain his fitness, he took up mountaineering and underwent rigorous training.
Climbs highest peaks across seven continents
His efforts culminated in the successful ascent of the highest mountains on all seven continents, a feat achieved by only a small number of people worldwide.
On June 18, he summited Denali, the highest peak in North America, completing the Seven Summits challenge.
First South Indian doctor to achieve feat
The achievement makes Dr Rajashekhar the first doctor from South India to complete the Seven Summits challenge.
A major milestone in his mountaineering journey came on May 23, 2024, when he successfully scaled Mount Everest. His ascent of Denali has now secured his place among a select group of mountaineers who have conquered the highest peaks across all seven continents.
