complaint against illegal loan apps

HYDERABAD: A 46-year-old Ayurvedic doctor has approached the Cybercrime Police Station in Hyderabad, alleging harassment, extortion and misuse of personal data by two online loan applications that he downloaded from the Google Play Store.

In a complaint, Tirumalarao Gunapalli said he downloaded loan apps, Loan Radar and Quick Funds  in August 2025 and initially borrowed small amounts, which he repaid on time. He alleged that after repayments, the apps credited double the loan amounts to his bank accounts without his consent.

Gunapalli stated that although the loan tenure was shown as seven days, he began receiving threatening calls and morphed images from the sixth day morning. He alleged that the app operators had accessed his gallery and contact list during installation and later used his photographs to create morphed pornographic images.

According to the complaint, the accused sent the morphed images to him and threatened to circulate them among his contacts unless payments were made. “Due to their harassment, I suffered immense mental distress and paid the amounts they demanded,” he said.

The complainant told police that approximately ₹29 lakh was credited to his State Bank of India account between September 2025 and February 2026 through these apps. He alleged that because of exorbitant interest rates and unfair practices, he has already paid about ₹64,16,242.64 through his SBI and HDFC Bank accounts, as well as through friends’ HDFC Bank accounts.

He further alleged that ₹1.19 lakh has been placed on hold in his SBI account at the Osmania Medical Branch. Gunapalli requested the cybercrime police to take necessary action against the loan app operators for harassment, extortion and data misuse.
