Hyderabad Doctor Fraud Case Linked To Fake Gachibowli Land Deal And Nmc Post Scam

HYDERABAD: A 68-year-old doctor from the city lost ₹8 crore after a man allegedly lured him with promises of six land plots in Gachibowli and a senior position in the National Medical Commission (NMC), police said.

The Cyberabad Economic Offences Wing (EOW) registered a case against the accused, Chakka Surendra Kumar, under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including cheating, criminal breach of trust and forgery. Police have launched an investigation, as reported by TOI.

Accused posed as PMO official

According to the complaint, the doctor, a resident of Kondapur, met Kumar in July 2021 through a common acquaintance, Ajay. Kumar introduced himself as a Delhi-based bureaucrat working in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

Moreover, Kumar presented his wife, Latha, as a realtor operating across states, claiming to run offices in Habsiguda and Nacharam. Within a week, the couple visited the doctor’s residence and offered six plots in Gachibowli, each valued at ₹50 lakh. They also showed forged land allotment letters, purportedly issued by revenue authorities, to gain his trust.

Money paid in phases

Trusting their claims, the doctor transferred ₹4.45 crore through cheques between July 17 and September 19, 2021. In addition, he paid ₹1.55 crore towards registration and regularisation charges.

Subsequently, Kumar assured the doctor that he could secure him a director’s post in the NMC, a statutory body under the Union health ministry. He allegedly collected another ₹2 crore for facilitating the appointment and even sent a fabricated email dated July 30, 2021, claiming the doctor was under consideration.

To arrange the funds, the doctor borrowed money from relatives, friends and his son.

Suspicion and chase

However, the doctor grew suspicious when the promised appointment did not materialise and the land registrations faced repeated delays. In December 2021, he visited the offices in Habsiguda and Nacharam but found them vacated.

He then tracked Kumar across multiple locations, including Madanapalle, Guntur, Bengaluru and Visakhapatnam. However, Kumar refused to return the money.

The doctor also alleged that Kumar’s associates tried to run him over in Nacharam, although he managed to escape.

Case registered

Finally, after repeated failed attempts to recover the money, the victim approached the EOW on March 23.

An EOW official said preliminary findings indicate that the accused has a prior criminal record. Meanwhile, police teams are working to trace and apprehend him.
