HYDERABAD: A former corporator from Miyapur has lodged a police complaint alleging that defamatory content was circulated on Facebook targeting a sitting MLA.

In a written complaint dated March 31, 2026, Sreekanth Uppalapati, former corporator of 108-Miyapur Division, alleged that Maraboina Ravi Yadav, associated with a political party in Serilingampally, posted objectionable content against MLA Arekapudi Gandhi.

Posts flagged as derogatory and potentially disruptive

The complainant stated that the posts were derogatory in nature and could affect public order. He alleged that the content could lead to tensions among supporters in the constituency.

Complaint cites BNS and IT Act provisions

The complaint invoked provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 356 (defamation) and 352 (intentional insult), along with relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000 related to online content.

According to the complaint, supporting material such as screenshots and links to the posts were submitted.

Police register case, investigation underway

Police at Miyapur police station registered a case based on the complaint. Officials said an investigation has been initiated and further details are awaited.
