Dairy farm owner held with 173 oxytocin injection bottles in Hyderabad
HYDERABAD: The Commissioner’s Task Force, Shamshabad Zone, arrested a dairy farm owner for allegedly procuring and selling restricted oxytocin injections illegally to dairy farmers in and around Hyderabad. Police seized 173 bottles of oxytocin injections, each containing 250 ml, valued at ₹50,000.
The arrested accused was identified as Attheni Krishna, 45, a resident of Mankhal village in Rangareddy district. Police said he operated a dairy farm and a cattle feed shop named “Srikrishna Cattle Feed” at Tukkuguda.
According to the Task Force, Krishna allegedly procured restricted oxytocin injections from a supplier identified as Khaled Ali alias Chatru Singh, who is absconding. Police said the supplier sourced the injections from Gujarat and distributed them to illegal buyers in and around Hyderabad.
Investigators said Krishna bought each bottle for ₹50 and sold them to dairy farmers for ₹250 to ₹300 per bottle. The injections were allegedly used to force buffaloes to produce more milk.
Police said another accused, identified as Suresh of Tukkuguda, regularly purchased the injections for use on dairy buffaloes. He is also absconding.
Acting on a tip-off, the Shamshabad Zone Task Force apprehended Krishna and seized the injections from his possession. He was later handed over to Pahadishareef police station for further legal action. Efforts are under way to trace the remaining accused.
Police said frequent use of oxytocin injections in animals could lead to reproductive disorders, uterine stress, mastitis and reduced fertility. Officials also warned that milk containing oxytocin residue could cause hormonal imbalance and other health complications in humans.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Inspector K Venkat Reddy, along with sub-inspectors S Seshu and K Naga Raju of the Shamshabad Zone Task Force and Pahadishareef police.
