Dairy Farm Elevated Corridor works gain pace in Secunderabad

HYDERABAD: Construction of the Dairy Farm Elevated Corridor in Secunderabad has gathered momentum. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) said soil strength tests on the 5.4-km stretch—part of the preparatory work for pillar construction—are nearing completion. As part of the geotechnical investigation, soil samples were collected from multiple points along the route.
Officials said 1,000 mm and 800 mm diameter drinking water pipelines along a 600-metre stretch have been shifted and alternative arrangements made. Measures have also been taken to prevent traffic disruption in Annanagar and nearby areas. Traffic police are working on regulating vehicle flow during construction.
The HMDA plans to complete all preliminary works shortly and begin pillar construction. The corridor is expected to be completed within two years. The project also includes a major tunnel near Begumpet Airport, about 600 metres long.
The ₹652-crore project runs from Paradise to Dairy Farm via Secunderabad, Tadbund, and Bowenpally. Including land acquisition, total costs are estimated at ₹1,550 crore. Officials said the corridor will ease traffic on National Highway 44 and serve as a key northern access route for vehicles coming from Medchal, Medak, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal, and Adilabad without affecting city traffic.
They added that, with Hyderabad’s expansion up to the Regional Ring Road, the corridor will meet future mobility needs in the extended urban zone.

Shamirpet elevated corridor bidding in two days
Tenders for another elevated corridor—from Secunderabad to Shamirpet Outer Ring Road—will be floated in two days. The 18.1-km corridor will include a 500-metre tunnel near Hakimpet Air Force Training Centre.
Officials said all preliminary works and defence land acquisition—197 acres in total, including 113.48 acres from the defence ministry—have been completed. Two major defence reservoirs that will be removed along the route will be reconstructed elsewhere by HMDA.
