Hyderabad Cyclist Group pedals to Parade Grounds to promote cycling on Makar Sankranti

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Cyclist Group (HCG) participated in the ‘Fit India’ cycling movement to celebrate Makar Sankranti on Tuesday. As part of the drive, the riders pedaled across Hyderabad and concluded it at Parade Grounds, Secunderabad.
The city-based cyclist group thanked the enthusiasts for turning out in huge numbers on the occasion of Sankranti festival and despite it being a public holiday today. The cyclists held a ‘Fit India’ poster at Parade Grounds and raised slogans promoting fitness and a healthy lifestyle while spreading festive cheer.
HCG is pushing many people to ditch their polluting vehicles and take cycles as alternate mode of transport to stay fit and healthy. The cyclists group explained to the people about the benefits of pedalling for daily activities during the Covid pandemic. Since then, the group has helped scores of amateurs and aspiring cyclists including men, and women, young and old switch to bike mode.
The Hyderabad cyclist group is entering into 8th year next month. Ravinder Nandanoori, the founder of Hyderabad Cyclist Group, says, “the aim of the group is to promote cycling with intuitive cycling activities for all kinds of cyclists, from beginner to experienced.”
On World Environment Day, the HCG had conducted a cyclothon with the theme ‘Pedal for the Planet’ at Rashtrapati Nilayam in collaboration with National Mineral Development Corporation. The cyclothon saw an active participation of over 850 cyclists in the city.
‘Fit India Cycling’ drive is a part of countrywide ‘Fit India Movement’ initiated by the Central government to promote a healthy lifestyle among the citizens of India. A similar drive was held in over 1,000 locations across the country on Tuesday. The event was organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports’ Fit India movement, in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India (CFI), MY Bharat, and various sports authorities.
