HYDERABAD: A woman has alleged that she faced harassment from an unidentified man while jogging on a cycle track in Hyderabad early in the morning, raising fresh concerns over safety in public spaces.

According to her account shared on social media, the incident occurred around 6.00 IST when she was running on the track. She said a “random” individual behaved in a “disgusting” manner, leaving her shaken.

The woman questioned the safety of the area, which is generally considered a popular and secure space for runners and cyclists. “Isn’t this supposed to be safe?” she asked in the video.

Concerns over safety in public recreational spaces

The cycle track has long been used by residents for morning exercise, with many considering it relatively safe. However, the latest allegation has triggered concern among regular users, especially women.

Some users said such incidents could discourage people from using public infrastructure meant for fitness and recreation.

Questions raised on policing and response mechanisms

The incident has also drawn criticism regarding policing and the presence of dedicated safety units such as She Teams. Users on social media questioned whether adequate surveillance and patrolling were in place during early hours.

The woman also highlighted societal attitudes, noting that victims often feel compelled to justify their attire when reporting such incidents.

Police have not yet issued an official statement on the allegation. It remains unclear whether a formal complaint has been filed.
