Renu Desai Abusive Comment

HYDERABAD: The Cybercrime Police, Cyberabad, arrested a man from Guntur after he allegedly posted an offensive and abusive comment on a social media platform targeting Renu Desai, ex-wife of Pawan Kalyan, Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and film actor. Police made the arrest after investigating a complaint regarding objectionable online content.

The accused, Chennaiah Runjala, lives in Guntur district. Police stated that he often watched YouTube reels in his free time. After he viewed a reel featuring actress Renu Desai, he posted an abusive and offensive comment from his account.

Although the accused was in Guntur, the Cybercrime Police tracked the comment, identified him, and apprehended him. Police informed him of the reasons for his arrest and brought him to the Cyber Crime Police Station in Gachibowli for further proceedings.

During verification, the accused produced his mobile phone, which he used to post the objectionable comment, as evidence.

Police registered a case against Chennaiah Runjala under relevant provisions of the law governing online speech and cyber offences. While the press release did not detail the specific sections, posting abusive or offensive content on social media platforms can attract penalties under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act, 2000, including provisions related to sending offensive messages and cyber harassment.

Following the arrest, the Cybercrime Police issued a strong advisory emphasizing responsible online conduct. Police advise users to avoid posting abusive, defamatory, or offensive comments on social media platforms. Posting objectionable content can result in legal action, including arrest and prosecution. Police encourage citizens to use digital platforms responsibly and to report cyber offences to the nearest Cyber Crime Police Station or through the 1930 Cyber Helpline.
