Hyderabad cyber crime police bust Telegram-based job fraud, arrests two

Hyderabad Job Fraud Cyber Crime

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police arrested two accused who cheated people on the pretext of online part-time job fraud.Investigation revealed that the accused were involved in 140 cases across India, with nine cases pertaining to Telangana.

The accused were identified as Krishna Babanrao Pawar and Ramakant Jivan Dhanawate from Maharashtra. They were arrested on November 15, 2024. Going further into details, the Hyderabad police received a complaint about a Telegram ID offering a part-time job. The victim followed their instructions, registered on their website with user ID and password, and created an institutional account. The victim initially invested small amounts and got returns, but the fraudsters insisted on higher investments.

“The victim fell for a trap, believed fraudsters, and invested Rs. 1.6 lakh. The fraudsters showed profits on the website but wouldn’t allow withdrawals, making the victim realize it was fraud,” said Hyderabad police. The victim then approached the Cyber Crime Police, Hyderabad, and filed a complaint. Following this, police booked a case and started an investigation.

Modus Operandi

The accused, Krishna Babanrao Pawar and Ramakant Jivan Dhanawate, colluded with cyber fraudsters. They sent a message from a Telegram ID, offered a part-time job and insisted the victim follow their instructions. The victim was instructed to get registered into their website with user ID and password and create an institutional account in the website. The victim initially invested smaller amounts and got returns, but the accused and their associates insisted on investing higher amounts.

“Accused persons came to Hyderabad to procure/Opening of the new Current Accounts and stayed at Gachibowli, Hyderabad on credible information were apprehended by Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police. The above accused were involved in 140 cases in all over India in which 09 cases pertained to Telangana,” said Dara Kavitha, Deputy commissioner of police, Hyderabad commissionerate. The police seized a laptop, ten mobile phones, nine debit cards, eleven cheque books, and three shell company stamps used in the commission of offences.

Public are cautioned, not to believe the fraudulent phone calls and impersonating persons in online websites and also not to invest in unauthorized websites/domains or through any other means, which lures on the guise of high returns by investing little amounts by sitting at home.
