₹3.5 crore hydroponic marijuana haul at RGIA, passenger arrested
HYDERABAD: A passenger arriving from Bangkok was arrested after Hyderabad Customs officials seized 10.050 kg of hydroponic marijuana, valued at around ₹3.52 crore in the illicit market, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on May 22, 2026.
Officials of the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU), Hyderabad Customs, intercepted the Indian passenger based on Advance Passenger Information System (APIS) intelligence.
During an examination of the passenger’s check-in baggage, officers recovered nine black-coloured packets containing a greenish, lumpy substance with a pungent odour. The packets had allegedly been concealed inside clothes in the baggage.
Customs officials said the seized substance weighed 10.050 kg and tested positive for marijuana using a narcotic drug detection kit.
According to the AIU, the hydroponic marijuana is estimated to be worth about ₹3.52 crore in the illegal market.
The passenger was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Officials said further investigation is under way.
