Hyderabad Police Annual Report 2025: Over all crime down 15%
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad City Police reported a 15% reduction in overall crime in 2025, according to the annual report by Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar. This decrease marks significant progress in the city’s public safety efforts.
In 2025, 30,690 cases were registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Special and Local Laws (SLL), and other categories, compared to 35,944 in 2024. Bodily offences declined by 16% and property offences by 28%.
Major crime category reductions
Murder cases fell by 10%, from 77 in 2024 to 69 in 2025. Robbery declined by 47%, from 219 to 116 cases. Housebreaking incidents dropped by 14%. Automobile theft decreased by 28%, from 2,091 to 1,501 cases. Cybercrime reports were down by 27%, from 3,111 to 2,286 cases.
Despite these improvements, two categories saw increases. Crimes against women rose by 6%, from 2,482 to 2,625 cases. Crimes against children (POCSO cases) increased by 27%, from 449 to 568 cases. Police attribute these rises partly to greater reporting and awareness, supported by initiatives such as the Women Safety Wing and Bharosa support centres.
The Hyderabad City Police improved detection and recovery rates for property crimes. The detection rate increased from 47% in 2024 to 54% in 2025. The value of recovered property rose from Rs 18.03 crore to Rs 22.30 crore.
In narcotics enforcement, the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) registered 368 NDPS cases and arrested 1,345 individuals, including foreign nationals. Significant quantities of ganja, cocaine, and LSD were seized.
The police also emphasized the role of technology in crime prevention, including the Advanced City Surveillance Grid Protocol and the EYES (Empowering Your Everyday Safety) teams. These teams ensure the smooth operation of the city’s extensive CCTV network.
In his annual message, Commissioner Sajjanar stated, “Our focus remains on building a people-friendly police force that works with the community to prevent crime and ensure justice. We thank the citizens of Hyderabad for their cooperation and trust.”
Looking ahead to 2026, the police have introduced a Vision 2026 plan featuring AI-driven policing, enhanced safety programmes for women and children, improved traffic management, and stronger community engagement.
