Ambati Rayudu after taking charge as HCA cricket operations head

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Cricket Association Apex Council has appointed former India cricketer Ambati Rayudu as head of cricket operations in a move aimed at improving governance and transparency in the association.

The decision was taken under the supervision of the single-member committee headed by Justice Naveen Rao. The association also announced a comprehensive plan to strengthen cricket development and improve playing standards.

Rayudu to oversee cricket operations and selections

Rayudu has signed a three-year agreement and will work without drawing any financial benefits from the HCA. He assumed charge on Tuesday.

HCA president Amarnath and secretary Jeevan Reddy said Rayudu would oversee training, selections, talent scouting and other cricket-related operations.

“I strongly believe cricket should remain separate from administration. My responsibility is to ensure players’ welfare and bring Hyderabad the recognition it deserves. Hyderabad should become a centre that produces international cricketers,” Rayudu said.

HCA plans anti-corruption and complaint mechanisms

Rayudu said his focus would be on corruption-free cricket and announced plans to establish an Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) and a complaints division.

“Corruption in cricket will not be tolerated. Players and others can submit complaints through a toll-free number or email. Those found guilty will be reported to the ACU and the Board of Control for Cricket in India and placed on a blacklist,” he said.

He added that the ACU would monitor players, parents, selectors and umpires to ensure transparency in the system.

Rayudu also said the HCA plans to implement a player contract system similar to the one recently introduced by the Mumbai Cricket Association. Selections would be based on merit, with teams chosen not only through league performances but also via open trials.

He said the association was planning to establish a Centre of Excellence in line with international standards and focus on cricketers from districts.

Former district judge Vijender Pingle will serve as chairman of the ACU. The HCA also plans to constitute a committee under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act, 2013, to provide a safe environment for women cricketers and staff.
