HYDERABAD: Courts in Hyderabad have awarded stringent sentences, including life imprisonment, to accused in five separate sexual assault cases involving minor girls, reaffirming a zero-tolerance approach towards crimes against children, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Women Safety Wing, P Lavanya Naik Jadhav, said on February 3, 2026.

Zero tolerance towards crimes against children

Addressing a press briefing, the DCP said the Hyderabad City Police remain firm that offenders involved in sexual crimes against minors will not escape the law. She said trial courts had delivered convictions in five Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act cases registered across the city.

Details of court verdicts

The convictions relate to cases registered under the Begumpet, Banjara Hills, Bhavani Nagar and SR Nagar police stations. Sessions courts and fast-track special courts delivered the following judgments:

  • Life imprisonment: A father was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for the remainder of his natural life for sexually assaulting his 12-year-old daughter.

  • 25 years’ imprisonment: A neighbour was awarded 25 years’ rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl.

  • 20 years’ imprisonment: An accused who lured and assaulted an eight-year-old girl was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

  • Five years’ imprisonment (two cases): Two accused received five years’ rigorous imprisonment each for sexually harassing girls aged four and eight.

  • Compensation: Courts directed payment of compensation ranging from ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh to the victims, in addition to prison terms.

Bharosa Centre support ensured swift justice

The DCP highlighted the role of the Bharosa Centre in providing psychological counselling, legal assistance, medical care and continuous court support to victims and their families. She said the centre’s intervention helped ensure cases were pursued to their logical conclusion despite pressure from accused persons.

Team effort led to convictions

The successful convictions were the result of coordinated efforts by investigating officers, public prosecutors, court liaison officers and court duty staff, she said. The Hyderabad City Police Commissioner, who oversees women and child safety initiatives, congratulated the officers involved for securing the convictions.

The press note was issued by P Lavanya Naik Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Women Safety Wing, Hyderabad City.
