Medchal court awards death penalty in boy’s murder

HYDERABAD: A court in Medchal-Malkajgiri district on Tuesday awarded death penalty to a transgender person for murdering an eight-year-old boy in Hyderabad in 2023 over a chit fund dispute. An auto driver who helped dispose of the body was sentenced to seven years in prison.
The III Additional Court at Medchal-Malkajgiri pronounced the verdict in the murder case reported under the limits of the Sanathnagar Police Station. Judge Mandava Venkateswara Rao delivered the judgment on May 12.
Child lured with chocolate before murder
According to the prosecution, Imran Ali Khan alias Fiza, 33, killed Abdul Waheed Khan, 8, on April 20, 2023. Police said the accused lured the boy into the house by offering chocolate and later slit his throat with a knife.
The investigation revealed that the murder stemmed from a financial dispute linked to a chit fund. Abdul Waseem Khan’s relative, Asim, had invested ₹5 lakh in a chit run by Imran. Police said ₹1 lakh was paid, while the remaining ₹4 lakh was delayed.
Investigators said Waseem Khan had repeatedly pressured Imran to return the remaining money. Enraged over the dispute, Imran allegedly targeted Waseem Khan’s son.
Body dumped in drain at Fatehnagar
After the murder, Imran allegedly wrapped the body in a plastic cover and transported it with the help of auto driver Mohammed Rafiq, 32. The body was later dumped in a drain in the Fatehnagar area.
Sanathnagar police launched an investigation after receiving a missing complaint. During the probe, police examined CCTV footage and detained Imran for questioning, leading to the murder coming to light.
The court convicted Imran after examining the evidence submitted in the chargesheet. Mohammed Rafiq was convicted for assisting in disposing of the body.
Waheed’s father, Abdul Waseem Khan, welcomed the verdict and thanked the court and police for delivering justice.
