118 kg ganja sourced from Odisha seized in Hyderabad, two held
Hyderabad: Excise police seized 118 kilograms of ganja at the RTO checkpost in Hyderabad on Wednesday. The contraband was being smuggled from Kalimela in Odisha to Hyderabad by three individuals using two auto-rickshaws, according to a press release from Excise enforcement director VB Kamalasan Reddy.
Acting on a tip-off, the officials from Excise enforcement and Excise police department conducted a joint operation at the checkpost. They intercepted and inspected the auto-rickshaws that were being used to transport the ganja.
The officials seized both auto-rickshaws along with the 118 kilograms of ganja and arrested two suspects, while the third managed to flee the scene. According to Superintendent of Excise Department Karam Chandu, the seized ganja was worth approximately Rs. 31.50 lakhs.
The arrested individuals were identified as Kanigala Swathik from Hyderabad and Gunju Amos from Mangur while the third suspect Sapavat Venkanna remains absconding, Excise police said. The joint operation was carried out by the staff members of SI Gautham which include Ramakrishna Goud, Habib Pasha, Venkata Narayana, Guruvayya, Sumanth, Sravani and Ramesh.
Excise Enforcement Director VB Kamalasan Reddy, Excise Superintendent Janardhan Reddy, Assistant Commissioner Ganesh and Excise Superintendent Janaiah commended the team for intercepting ganja consignment.
