Hyderabad consumer panel orders Ayurveda firm to pay ₹14,000 over false height claim
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad District Consumer Commission-I has ordered a Delhi-based firm, MKS and Strength Ayurveda, to pay ₹14,000 to a Hyderabad woman. The commission found it guilty of misleading claims about a height-increasing treatment.
The commission said the company used unfair trade practices. It promised to increase the complainant’s height by 1.5 inches in one month without any scientific proof.
According to the complaint, Darqasha Begum from Moosapet approached the firm after seeing its advertisement. The company’s representatives assured her that the treatment would increase her height by 1.5 inches within a month. They also promised a refund if the treatment failed.
Trusting these claims, she bought a product called “3AB” on November 22, 2024, for ₹4,000.
When she saw no improvement after a month, she asked for a refund. The company did not refund her money. Instead, it advised her to buy another product. She then paid ₹2,000 on January 2, 2025, and purchased another medicine.
The complaint said the treatment failed completely. It also caused body pain and other side effects.
Aggrieved, she approached the consumer commission. The panel noted that the company made exaggerated and unscientific claims. It also failed to honour its assurances.
The commission ruled that the company’s actions amounted to deficiency in service and unfair trade practice.
It ordered the firm to refund ₹6,000, pay ₹5,000 as compensation, and bear ₹3,000 towards litigation costs. The total payout comes to ₹14,000.
