HYDERABAD: A consultancy owner was stabbed to death after a dispute over ₹1,000 at Madhura Nagar in the Vengal Rao Nagar area on Tuesday afternoon.

Police identified the victim as Shashikiran Reddy, who ran a consultancy office in Yousufguda.

According to police, Rani Reddy, a native of the Vijayawada–Eluru region of Andhra Pradesh, had been living in the Madhura Nagar colony for some time.

Job dispute escalates

Last month, a youth named Prabhu Kumar approached the consultancy seeking employment. As per company rules, he paid ₹2,500 and was placed in a job at a hotel in Banjara Hills.

A few days later, the youth returned and said the job did not work out. He demanded that the consultancy return the money.

Shashikiran Reddy told him that the firm’s policy did not allow refunds once the placement fee had been paid.

Knife attack inside office

The youth allegedly locked the office room and threatened the victim. With no other option, Shashikiran Reddy returned ₹1,500 but said he could not pay the remaining ₹1,000.

An argument broke out between the two. The youth then pulled out a knife he had brought with him and stabbed Shashikiran Reddy in the neck.

A receptionist who heard the commotion rushed into the room. The attacker allegedly assaulted her as well while fleeing the building.

Victim dies during treatment

Staff alerted the Madhura Nagar police station. Police personnel reached the spot and shifted the injured Shashikiran Reddy to a hospital.

He later died while undergoing treatment. The receptionist is receiving medical care.

Shashikiran Reddy had married Naga Bharathi about 20 days ago. The family had been celebrating the wedding when the incident occurred.

Following a complaint filed by the victim’s wife, police have registered a case and started an investigation.
